KAlewala: Tale of Sampo

Short movie to promote a Kickstarter campaign for tabletop game.

I was a part of the core production team from the start of the project with Dina Ramse and Tuomas Mansikka. My main responsibility was to design and make our props from the Sampo to tiniest costume props like little metal hoops for the dresses. The cape and shirt pins were blacksmithed by my brother Ilpo Tuulenkari. Dina Ramse designed and sewed most of the costumes and it's our handiwork how everyone looks in this film. Tuomas Mansikka, as a maker of the board game, had the role of screenwriter and director. We took Timo Pyrrö to the team to film and edit as a promising new talent to the industry.

In first picture there is Iku-Turso, ancient sea monster. I made his tusks and the seaweed headpiece. Next there is Lemminkäinen who's moose horns are my doing. In the last photo is my design of the famous Sampo itself. Inspiration for that is taken from old grinding stones. Its three layers represents the three types of materials it can produce: wheat, salt and gold. Those are also seen in its colors.
